All you need is a single die and a full cup. Roll it, do what the number says, and pass it on — Drunk Dice turns the simplest prop at the party into the fastest way to get a circle of friends laughing (and drinking). Here’s exactly how to play, plus custom rules to make it your own.
What you need
- One standard 6-sided die
- A drink for every player
- 2–10+ players in a circle
- (Optional) our printable die-face rules card and challenge deck
How to play Drunk Dice
- Sit in a circle. Gather everyone around a table. The youngest player rolls first, then play passes clockwise.
- Roll the die. On your turn, roll the die into the center where everyone can see it.
- Do the challenge. Match the number to its challenge: 1 = take 2 sips, 2 = swap seats, 3 = make someone drink, 4 = waterfall, 5 = make a rule, 6 = social (everyone drinks).
- Ramp it up. As drinks flow, swap in harder custom challenges or draw a bonus challenge card instead of rolling.
- Pass it on. Hand the die to the next player and keep the rounds moving.
Variations
- Custom chart: Replace the six default challenges with your own before the game. Our printable includes a blank swap-in chart plus a spicy preset.
- Two dice: Play with two dice and add the numbers for 11 escalating challenges — great for bigger groups.
- House rule stacking: Every 5 (“make a rule”) stays active all night. By the end, a single turn can trigger three rules at once.
Pro tips
- Keep the die on the table — no throwing it across the room.
- Assign one person to track active “make a rule” rules so nobody forgets.
- Water between rounds keeps the game going longer than doing shots on every 6.
Drunk Dice drinking game rules — FAQ
Is one die really enough?
Yes — a single 6-sided die is the only required prop. Everything else is your drinks and (optionally) our printable cards.
How do you make Drunk Dice harder?
Swap in a custom challenge chart or add a second die so the challenges escalate as the night goes on.
How many people can play?
It works with as few as 2 and scales to 10 or more — the bigger the circle, the wilder the “social” and “waterfall” rolls.
